The Deputy Mayor of Pomorie Municipality Yancho Iliev presented the implementation of HA2WASTE project at the XXVII National Meeting of Municipal Financiers, held on 10-12 June 2025.
“We first made a morphological analysis of the discarded waste. The area we examined consists of residential buildings with around 1 000 households in Svoboda district, Pomorie. We are aware that the largest collected volume is food waste. That’s why we bought bins and bags for disposal of biodegradable waste. We bought and distributed bags for households to collect their plastic, paper and metal waste. We had meetings on the spot with people from every residential building. Indeed, the results show that the key is the separation of waste at household level. Our main task is to give people the opportunity to separate”, said Mr. Iliev.
The Deputy Mayor also presented the infrastructure for the introduction of door-to-door waste collection – an integrated information system, equipment with garbage truck readers, stationary and mobile eco-stations for the collection of various waste streams, household inventory and containers for separately collected recyclable waste.
More than 400 representatives of Municipalities took part in the forum. “Thank you on behalf of the entire team for your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise with us. It is the practical information you provide us every day that helps us to be a strong voice of municipalities with solid arguments and pragmatic decisions. Your dedication to public work deserves appreciation and respect”, said Silvia Georgieva, Executive Director of the National Association of Municipalities sof Bulgaria (NAMRB) at the beginning of the meeting.
